The main purpose of the dance/movement therapist is to provide adjunct therapy, in collaboration with the primary therapist/clinician, to both residential and day treatment students. The dance/movement therapist assesses, schedules and conducts movement therapy for emotionally disturbed clients, working towards the goals indicated in the clients IEP or individual treatment plan. Dance/movement therapy compliments individual therapy when traditional verbal therapy can not be utilized effectively and a nonverbal therapeutic modality is needed to assure that quality mental health treatment is accessible.
